WINKS: the World Initiative for Neurotrophic Keratopathy Solutions

What does WINKS do?

1. Helps support care for patients needing corneal neurotization.

2. Accelerates research and development of better treatments for NK.

3. Supports and coordinates travel and lodging for patients and families seeking corneal neurotization.

Why is WINKS Needed?

Globally, one in 2000 people suffer from NK. NK can arise from any condition that disrupts the nerves to the cornea, such as brain tumors, infections, trauma, prior eye surgery, or congenital syndromes. Unfortunately, most patients progress to blindness even though the cornea is the only affected part of the eye and the remainder of the visual system is intact.
